A Journey as Old as Humanity Itself

It's not too late to do some last minute holiday shopping for someone in your life (or yourself!) that's always dreamed about discovering their faith through a pilgrimage. James Harpur's novel, "The Pilgrim Journey: A History of Pilgrimage in the Western World" explores the study of the place of pilgrimage in Western Christianity.

A.J. Swoboda of Christianity today wrote an engaging article on the book. He states, "At the time I read Friedman’s book, I felt freed, the way you feel freed when someone puts into words what you hadn’t found yet. Friedman was describing the church I saw in America—olive-tree Christians were being replaced by Lexus Christians. Less and less, I was discovering, were people content simply being where they were, settling down, rooting themselves, and embracing mundane Christianity. Ours was becoming a church addicted to movement. Everything had to be radical. Why? We’ve grown bored of our freedom."

Ancient Christian Pilgrimage Site Comes to Light in Northern Turkey

The Daily Sabah recently reported that the birthplace of Saint Alypuis the Stylite, Hadrianopolis in northern Turkey is currently undergoing excavation works to reveal the site dating back to the 1st century B.C. This location was an important site of pilgrimage for early Christians until the city lost its relevance in 8th century A.D.

"This city is the birthplace of Saint Alypius the Stylite, one of the most important personalities of the ancient ages. Because of this, it was used as a pilgrimage site," Prof. Dr. Vedat Keles, head of Underwater Archeology department of Ondokuz Mayis University stated.
